100 Days of Pictures: Day 4

Something I wish I could forget:

You guys. I went to Whiskey Dixx. I did. I'm so ashamed. I made a fool out of myself, too. I'll never go back. Never. Thankfully I really don't remember most of it. Thank you, booze. 8P

Bad Day

Today I'm supposed to post about DIY - either home updates or cleaning products. But it's a poopie day for that. The entire right side of my face is broken out for some reason. It's so gross. Hopefully it's my period, and not a failure of my shampoo and/or face wash. I haven't had a real "period" since I got on Depo...at the end of last summer? They said it could take up to 18 months to get out of my system. My last shot supposedly ran out mid-February. Note: I'm not pregnant. Note: TMI content just before this note!

But, yeah - my face is broken out and it makes me sad. I also found out that the grass seed I bought is best planted in cool weather. If we had gotten it and been prepared when we decided to plant grass in our backyard, it would've been fine. But due to our busy schedules, poor planning, and total lack of knowledge about being homeowners it's now too late. So now what do we do? Plant warm-weather grass? Plant this and hope for the best? Not do anything and have a muddy, weed-riddled yard? Plus, even if we had the right kind of seed, or it was the perfect time to plant, our yard still isn't ready. We got some of the gravel up, but there's still a ton left. We haven't picked up all the stepping stones. All the tarp under the mulch is still there. We're not sure what's weeds and what's supposed to be there - we're not sure we can even transplant it if it is supposed to be there and we just want to move it.

At this point I'm like - tear it all down. We'll plant new. It's easier than trying to move it, only to have to move it again later. But Mr. T is already calling me a nature hater, because I want to cut down the stupid Bradford pear that's back there, this fugly pine...shrub/tree/monstrosity, and a tree that's leaning over our fence and likely to fall on the neighbor's house.

So...bad day for DIY. *pout

Day 20: A Song I Listen to When I'm Angry

2011: "I'm on a Boat" by The Lonely Island

What I said: I don't really have an "angry" song...but I can't imagine it's possible to be angry while this song is on. :)

2013: "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Even when I'm at my most road-ragey this song puts me in a better mood. Huzzah!

100 Days of Pictures: Day 3

The cast from my favorite show.

Project Runway, what what? This season just ended. It was a good one. No word on when the next one starts... But I've got plenty of other shows to keep me occupied.

Neighbors

You guys.

When we lived on East Street, Mr. T got to know most of our neighbors. I didn't know any of them. This made me sad. When we bought our house, I was like "Alright - now is my chance." I had great plans to go meet everyone in the cul-de-sac and life was going to be awesome. Of course, that didn't happen. But....I'm kind of okay with it. Let me explain.

On one side we have The Dogs. I have no idea if these guys rent or own their house, but one of the other neighbors (that we have become friends with) has been here for several years, and The Dogs have been here at least that long. It doesn't appear to be a family - just several younger people living as housemates. But, if you haven't picked up on it already, they have dogs. That they leave outside all the time. That really like to bark. Like....REALLY LIKE TO BARK. We hate them. As it started to get warm and rainy and grass grow-y they mowed before we did, and mowed the sliver of our yard that is connected to theirs. The next week that mow-time came up they didn't. Mr. T and I were both like "Thank goodness!" We didn't want to have any reason to thank them. >.< I think we're evil. But omg those dogs!

On the other site we have The Kids. So - I like the woman that lives over there. I've talked to her a couple times, and she invited us over to one of those miserable jewelry parties where you listen to a sales pitch and then buy jewelry. Except I didn't buy jewelry because bleh. I wear plugs in my ears, my wedding rings, and one of two necklaces. I've been wanting to get to know her better, maybe invite her over to Ladies' Night or something. But I'm terrified I'll have to deal with her kids.

I'm not a parent, so I never feel comfortable commenting on parenting. But sometimes you have to go "Something went wrong here." The first time I met her I was trying to catch this stray-looking Chihuahua. She sat out in our yard with me while I tried to get the dog to come up to me (never did, but he was a little bastard, anyway). Her kids were out in the yard and just did not listen to her at all. They were little brats, climbing on my trees, and the little girl ran up to the dog right as it was getting close to us and almost got bitten, and ran the dog off again. But this most recent incident involves the boy.

It was the 2nd mow of the year - the one where The Dogs didn't mow our lawn. Mr. T was mowing, and I decided to grab some grass clippings for the compost (we're trying to compost). I took the rake out and noticed the two kids were playing in their yard. Gross. I don't know how to handle kids. So I rake up a bit of the grass, and the boy comes up to me "Whachewdoing?" *siiiiiiiigh.... "Raking up some grass to go in our compost." and I point over to the little bin. Well, he just goes over and opens it. Almost sticks his hand in, but I stop him, because omg gross. I have a little pile, so I set the rake down and grab the grass...he takes the rake and starts raking. I'm like "I don't really need any more." but he ignores me. Grabs more grass and puts it in my compost. Keeps raking. Keeps talking about how hard it is. I tell him he can stop - I don't need any more. He doesn't. He also enjoys swinging the rake around. At some point Roommate's wife and child comes out, so he gets distracted. I try to pick the rake up and he ninja grabs it and starts swinging it around - the tines scrape my car. SO PISSED. Finally get the rake away from him, and he starts asking if he can go in our house! Mmmm....no. I told him maybe one day with his mom, but not today. He goes up to the door, anyway. Sees Roommate's dog, opens the door, starts in. Thankfully Roommate was coming out just then and is like NOPE! We finally all just went back inside.

So, I can't enjoy my back yard because of The Dogs. I can't enjoy my front yard because of The Kids. I hate my neighbors.

100 Days of Pictures: Day 2

A picture of me and someone I used to be close to

See how close we were?! We were almost touching shoulders! That's close. Also note how unhappy I was about it. And the phone charger around my neck. Please ignore the matching t-shirts. Purely accidental.

DIY Update - Giving Up Shampoo

So, according to my schedule, this is where I post an update about my DIY adventures. Or home improvements. Eventually I need to link all of them in some fashion. But too lazy today.

I know I've mentioned going 'poo-less on here. I'm not sure how much detail I went into, or if it was even mentioned in its own post, or just in passing during other DIY stuff. There was some recipe I linked to that recommended 1 Tbs. of baking soda per 1 cup water for shampoo and 1 Tbs. apple cider vinegar for 1 cup water as conditioner. So I tried that. My hair got...greasy. They say it takes time to acclimate, but... 1 Tbs. for 1 CUP is...not a lot. I posted about it on Facebook (I have a DIY album) and one of my friends said she used way more than that, and that she felt like as long as you rinsed thoroughly you couldn't really use too much. After more online research, I had to agree with her. I had read some posts where people were creating a paste with the baking soda, so...I was like "MOAR!" And now my hair has really cleared up! It's at least as healthy-looking/feeling as it was with shampoo/conditioner - if not more. I don't really pay attention. My face did break out while my hair was in the super oily stage there at the beginning, so THAT was super lame. But it's clearing up now, so huzzah!

As far as my "recipe".... *shrug - I just dump some baking soda into a ketchup container, then fill it up the rest of the way with water. And I do the same with the apple cider vinegar. Except I put that into a little spray bottle. So, as far as my showering routine goes (so glad you asked about that, by the way) - 1) I put baking soda in my hair, against my scalp. Only where my hair is long - I don't do anything with the sides. Start on my forehead and go down to my neck, then back up. Rub it in real nice - it's kind of gritty with the baking soda. Then rinse it. Whatever you do, don't get it in your mouth/eyes. Blech. 2) Then I take care of my body - soap, shaving, body scrub, whatever. 3) I finish by rinsing my hair one more time, to make sure I get all the baking soda out, and then I spray the tips with the vinegar. I do one side of my mohawk, and then the other. I'm not sure how you'd do this with normal hair. I don't care. I'm not sure it matters all that much.

Anyway - another DIY success! Hooray me! Picture below because I can.

Friday Tunes

Yeah, kicking it old school now! It's been....since October?!....since I did a Friday Tunes. I had a totally different blog layout then, so now all my YouTube videos are totally jacked. OH WELL. Not fixing it now! So, back to the tunes...

Day 19: A Song from My Favorite Album

2011: "PONPONPON" by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

2012: "More than Words / Heaven" from the Rock of Ages soundtrack.

I really love this song. I really love this movie. I needs to watch it again.

100 Days of Pictures: Day 1

A picture of me with fifteen facts.

.....crap. Really? I forgot this stupid thing had stuff like this. By the by - I started doing this January 2011, on Facebook. If you're my FB friend you can totally dig through my albums and check it out. I made it to Day 80, guys! So close to finishing it! And I still failed. >.< Anyway, on to the facts!

  1. I'm married! Almost 3 years, now. Sorry, boys - this lady is OFF DA MARKET!
  2. Mmmm.... No babies! No plans for babies any time soon, either. Sorry, eggs leaving my body for the next few years - you'll not fulfill your destiny of becoming a baby! And now I'm really sad...
  3. We do own a dog, though! Splinter, he is. And he's about to turn....five! We think. Sure, why not.
  4. And also two cats: Khat, and Chairman Meow. Khat is freaking ancient. Like...probably 12, now. Chairman is but a wee babe. And has recently taken to peeing on things not the litter box. The bastard.
  5. Mr. T's cat is a bastard.
  6. My husband just opened an art gallery! Go "like" it on Facebook!
  7. We've just begun some serious backyard renovations at our hizzous. I'm already over it, and have gone way "over budget". I put it in quotes, because we don't really have a set "budget" but we only had $100 designated toward "yard work" in our Dave Ramsey budget, and we've gone over that a bit. Had to pull money from our "home repair and maintenance" fund. CLOSE ENOUGH.
  8. I just realized this says "15 facts" and not "15 facts about you". Oh-HO!

This is the most recent picture of me on FB. Really?? Anyway...I took part in a "No Means No, Yes, Means Yes" photo shoot. It's promoting consent. I think it's beyond crazy that this needs to be something we need to address. It's more than saying "Hey, don't rape people, mmkay?" because people will always do terrible things. The issue is when non-rapists say she asked for it based on her behavior/clothing/etc. NO ONE DESERVES TO BE RAPED. Also, this is a terrible picture - it's just the one we took with my cell phone after the shoot was over, so I could send it to Mr. T. I still haven't seen the official images. I need to ask about that... When I posted this image on Facebook one of my friends commented "I'm going to tell your mom!" Kind of funny, because of the whole cousin debacle you were hopefully a part of. Anywho...train of thought left the station without me, so imma peace out.

Vow

Alright, let's get this blog in gear, mmkay? Here is my mid-April resolution: I'm gonna post every day of the work week! I can do this - I WILL do this! Breakdown of posts:

I can do this, right? Right?! I'm going to start right now. BELIEVE IN ME!

Stuff and Things

I'm too lazy to try to find the post(s), but I've mentioned - maybe a couple times - that I've been thinking about giving up shampoo. Some other cleaning DIYs I've done: laundry detergent, dish detergent, face wash, lotion, body wash, and cleaning spray. I have posts over some of those, some I don't. Look - if you're coming here for fancy pants DIY tutorials, just leave. Just...go. That's not going to happen. There are people out there who do that exceedingly well. I am not one of them. I take their ideas and try them. So far it's been mostly a win. If you want to do any of the things I've done, just Google it. 8P

Anyway - giving up shampoo/conditioner. All this started when I read this post. That was some time ago. I like to wait until I'm out of the evil store-bought products before I move on. I'm not just doing this to get chemicals out of my house - I'm also trying to save money. Throwing half a bottle of perfectly fine, chemical-riddled shampoo away is just silly talk. But, I only have 1/3 the hair of a normal human. So it's been taking for.ev.er. to go through my shampoo. I finally just moved it over to Mr. T's basket - I doubt he's going to want to go 'poo-less any time soon, so it will help keep him happy for a bit longer. And now I'm shampoo-free!

The spray bottle has the apple cider vinegar in it, and the ketchup bottle is baking soda. Well, there's 1.5 Tbs of each in them - the rest is water. It's super diluted. Like...super diluted. As with all these DIY things I've embarked on, the general consensus is "Do whatever works for you." Which, lesbianest, is NOT HELPFUL. Some people use only enough water to make a paste with the baking soda. Some people have a cup and mix the baking soda/vinegar with water in the shower. This seems pretty wise, because pouring room-temperature tap water on your head while taking a nice warm shower....that water is gonna feel really fracking cold. Just FYI.

You need more/less of each depending on how oily your hair is. More baking soda, less vinegar if you have oily hair. I just went with what worked for her. If my hair starts getting funky I'll try to adjust it. Also, there is the "adjustment phase" where your hair gets super gross and oily. See, it's used to chemical-y shampoos and conditioners that totally screw with your body's natural balance of oils and whatever. And that makes your hair oily. So you use more shampoo/conditioner and get more oil..on and on and on. Or something. I don't care. But it takes your scalp awhile to realize you're not slathering all this weird stuff on it, so it keeps on producing too much oil. They recommend pony tails, scarves, head bands, and a willingness to look a little skanky until your body adjusts. And you can also use dry shampoos.

omg, guys - I'm turning into such a dirty  hippie. Well, hopefully a clean hippie. lol! It's kind of fun. And doing all this allows me to be all DIY and crafty without spending a ton of money like trying to redo our living room would be. We are saving up to remodel our bedroom. Hopefully going to do that this winter as a Christmas present to ourselves. I can't wait!! You should follow me on Pinterest. Here is the board for our bedroom. I have so many plans!! 8} It's gonna be so nice.... <3
