First Day(s)

Technically I've already worked two days, but yesterday when I got home I changed into PJs and sat down on the couch...didn't get up until I went to bed. Today went...almost the same way. It's not that the work's strenuous or anything (I mean, come ON - it's me here), I just have to wake up so early... And my dear darling husband stays up soooo late!! So we never see each other any more. Sad face. And yes, it's only been two days. :P Leave me alone.

Anyway, first day. I had my outfit all laid out the night before...and I didn't change my mind last minute or anything. Mr. T cooked me breakfast (d'aww...) - it was just eggs, but it was sweet because my husband woke up at 6:00 to cook me food. You don't know us if you don't realize how sweet that is. This morning he woke up mumbling about Armageddon and Subways. I don't know, it is what it is. So. I get up, get dressed, have breakfast, drive to work. I got stuck behind a stupid dog grooming van that went 5mph under the speed limit the entire way. It's nearly an hour drive and only a two-lane road. Sh*t gets real out there, people.

Hmmm...so. Get to work. Little bit early, probably about 20 minutes. Traffic really wasn't that bad. Found out today that's because I got there so early. When you're getting to work on time traffic suuuuucks. Also, when you're leaving traffic suuuuuucks. When I got there I met with a rep from the recruiting firm. Really nice guy. He always forgets which floor the company is on. Heh. He dropped me off then went on with his day. It's nice of them to do that, but it seemed kind of silly.

I spent most of the first day installing software. Visual Studio and a million other MS products. It's kind of freaking me out how Microsoft-heavy the office is. My boss uses IE, guys...IE. But it's a really cool place, anyway. ;) I also had to fill out some (more) paperwork, and got a tour of the office. It's a maze, guys. So confusing. It all looks the same. I wish I could upload a picture of the map - yes, I got a map. I can get from the elevators to my cubicle, the bathroom, and the break room. And the office of the HR person I had to turn the paperwork in to. Oh, fun fact - they don't put names on any doors. They're on the map. But just first initial, last name. So after I interact with someone I find their office/cubicle/whatever location and write out their first name on the map. I have my desk highlighted, and I have it propped against my cubicle wall so the layout matches real life. I was quite proud of myself.

What else? My boss took the whole IT department out for lunch! Yup, all three of us went to a Mexican restaurant. It was delicious. I think that's about it. The few "work" things I did were really basic. People from around the company email us and say "update such-and-such Web page in this way" and we do it. Each issue takes like 2 minutes. They would go a lot faster if Boss didn't have to explain everything to me. Also, lots and lots of automatically generated emails from various systems. I made about four folders in Outlook (yes, more MS) just to filter them out of my inbox. It's madness.

Today I spent most of the day going through ASP.net tutorials. Spent a good portion of my morning on MVC and was told they didn't use MVC. Oh, well. Knowledge is power. Mr. T and roommate drove up to take me to lunch. We ate at some delicious place that took nearly 30 minutes to get us our food. Good thing we're fast eaters. :P And I get an hour lunch. Fa-a-ancy. At the end of the day Boss gave me a glimpse into the world of their payroll software. It's....crazy. I've never seen a real, honest-to-goodness useful project. School stuff is pretty simple because everyone has to be able to do it, and do it in a timely manner. This little guy was a bit overwhelming. Using SQL stored procedures to access databases of information (thousands of entries). Then ADO.net (never heard of it until today...) to call the stored procedures. Then a ton of C# code to get all that data and turn it into one huge freaking text document for the whatever company to have their way with it. There were so many files....it was kind of exciting. lol! I'm tired.

Tomorrow I go back to ASP...then a little ADO. It looked really straightforward, though. Shouldn't be too hard. I need to brush up on my C# also. It's been...a few years. lol When I get home I watch Weeds. Except now I'm all caught up on what Netflix has to offer. They're only missing one season. And the newest season is about to start. But it's on stupid Showtime. Who the f is gonna pay for that s? Not this guy, I tell you that. Also, True Blood is started back soon. HBO. Balls. If I could just pay for HBO/Showtime I would be all over that shizz. But if the only way they can allow me to watch delightful TV legally is by payout out the butt for it? Well then, I guess I just won't. I need to go get our cable cancelled. The only person who watches it is Mr. T's friend if he crashes on our couch. And he just turns on ESPN for the noise. I'll get a radio.

It's almost 11:00. I need to get a shower and get in bed. I take showers at night now! That extra sleep in the morning is GREAT. I don't feel like finding a picture for this post. I hope you read it anyway. And then go read all my old ones. And then tell all your friends. I'm so interesting!

100 Truths

So here's the story. Back when I was a Freshman in college I made a group (this was back when groups were the shiz, hokay?) on Facebook called something like "My name is ________ and I am addicted to surveys." And me and all my friends would fill out stupid surveys, like used to be big on MySpace. The lovely Ms. C recently re-discovered said group and since she apparently has nothing better to do with her life, started filling them out again. So. Here is my 100 Random Truths:

The Wilsons Buy a Car

Well yesterday was a fun day. Not sure if you heard, but I got a job!! Woo! So Mr. T immediately set out to spend my first few paychecks. Before I've even started. (I start on Tuesday. Hopefully.) He started looking for a car for himself. And then immediately found one. Which is kind of how we decided to move in to the house we're renting right now...when boy decides to do something he wastes no time!

It's this nice little red Jeep - '91 I believe. So....old. But he told me after we test drove it "Any time I imagined the perfect car...this is it." How can you say no to that?! I'm so screwed when we have kids! It was $2800 which is relatively low, but we just didn't have the cabbage yet (hehe, "cabbage"). I suggested saving up and if it was still not sold when he had the money we buy it, otherwise he would have money saved up to get another car! But...this is his "perfect Jeep" Oy.

So...financing. Loans. More debt. Only $2500. Which he'll be able to pay off in like...three months (now that I have this awesome job - that I haven't started yet, mind you - and will be able to pay all the bills on my own, so he can focus on paying off his debts). But...where to get the loan?? This, my friends, is where my story begins. "But wait," you say "Haven't you already started the story?" No, my love - that was just the background. This is the story:

Chapter One: Mariner's Financing
So the dealer told us about this loan company....sent the information over....and Mr. T needed to take over some tax stuff to determine if he could take out a loan. So yesterday morning we head out to "somewhere past Kohl's" on Old Fort (that's all Mr. T remembered about the loan place). Pull into the Kohl's center...can't find any financing place anywhere. Driving, driving, driving...looking..."Oh! I think that's it!" So we go to Advance Financial. We go in, Mr. T tells them who he is, blah blah blah, she takes our stuff and starts filling out paperwork, making copies, time ticks on, then all of a sudden Mr. T is like..."Is this the right place?" and she's all "Do you need a check advance?" and he's all "No, I need a loan for a car." and she's all "Oh, we don't do that - but you're not the first person to come here on accident!" And so he calls the dealer again, gets the name of the place and is again told "somewhere past Kohl's" Driving, driving, driving...looking..."I don't see a Mariner's anywhere - call him back." Now we have the address. It's actually not all that close to Kohl's, for the record. I go to pull back out onto Old Fort, but Mr. T thinks we can get there without getting on the main road, so I start driving...."STOP!" he yells (for the record - don't EVER yell "stop" when I'm driving, unless you want to put all our lives in danger). He apparently disapproved of my driving behind the businesses, where employees park. I was all "You told me to drive in a straight line from here to there!" I'm a good and obedient wife, so I decide to pull back out in front. But of course there are these giant yellow concrete trucks-can't-go-this-way barriers, so it's a tiny tiny TINY fit...but I get through! And we see Mariner's! And...there's a grassy median between our parking lot and its parking lot (a median that isn't there behind the stores - if I had gone down one more we would have been there!!). So then I had to pull back out onto Old Fort, and then immediately back into a strip mall. Of course it was to our left!

Mr. T signing the title.
Chapter Two: Show Me the Money!
We get to Mariner's...go in...give them our tax stuff...chick doesn't know how to read tax reports. It takes all three of the employees there to figure it out. They say Mr. T's credit report is fine, but that his reported income for last year was too low. And...if he actually made more than he reported to good old Uncle Sam...doesn't count. Well, let's try Mr. T's bank, then. Show up at 11:00, his best friend banker (the reason Mr. T won't drop Regions and embrace the warmth that is Ascend with me) is leaving for lunch. Be back at noon. I have to meet my sister for lunch at noon so I can watch Baby M while she gets her hair cut on the Square. So Mr. T goes on his own. When I get back from an awesome play date with Baby M, I find out he was denied again - this time because of his credit score! Good old momsie, thanks for dropping the ball on those student loans and not telling us until he was about to default on them!! So...what if I got the loan in my name? Eh? Eh? Sounds like a party! So then I go to Regions and talk to Mr. T's best friend banker (who really is a lovely guy). And omg it takes FOREVER. But! I have a great credit score. Like...almost perfect. So I get the loan no problem. It's just all the paperwork. So gross. We go up, deposit the money into Mr. T's savings account, and I walk out $2500 richer (or $2500 more in debt, however you want to look at tie). I get back to the shop and Mr. T's all..."I need that in cash to pay the dealer." Oops.

You can see how the strain of the day wore on him. This was the happiest he had been all day, and he still looks like he's trying to poop a porcupine.  Side note - I had no idea "porcupine" had a 'u' in it until just now!
Chapter Three: One Jeep, Please
Whew, almost done... Mr. T withdrew the funds from his savings. He has a break from work at 5:00 and called the dealer, asking him to stay late. He agreed. We dash up there, Mr. T is filling out paperwork (while I'm taking pictures of his butt). Dealer starts counting the money then says "What are you planning on doing about the taxes?" and a silence descends on the room. Mr. T didn't think about taxes. He has enough money, but he only withdrew the exact amount on the car. To be fair, he's never actually bought a car through a dealer before, always friends and family. But now it's 5:30. And we have to find an ATM or open bank. We bolt out of the dealership, go to the nearest Regions. It's closed, but there is an ATM! Card, PIN, Withdraw, Savings, wait...."account doesn't exist" What the what? For some reason Mr. T can't access his savings account from an ATM. Awesome. And I don't have a debit card, so I can't use an ATM to withdraw money. I have to find an open bank. Luckily Ascend truly is the better bank, and we find one that's still open. I decide to use the drive through, even though I never ever have before. I know they did a photo ID to withdraw, so I take the Post-It the dealer wrote the tax amount on and added "withdrawal from account #xxxxxx" and stick it to my driver's license. Mr. T is yelling at me the whole time "No, you need to call them and tell them you need to make a withdrawal, and then they send you a withdrawal slip that you'll fill out, then you send it back and then you get money!" Now that just sounds like nonsense. I told him to hush - I've never even seen a "withdrawal slip" in my life. So I send my little ransom not on its way. A few seconds later I get a "Do you need a withdrawal from checking or savings?" "Checking, please." "Okay - anything else, Mrs. Wilson?" "No, thank you!" "Okay, have a nice day!" "You, too!!" and out comes my money! I only waste a second for a smug look, then we're dashing back to the dealership! Mr. T give him the rest of the money and we've got a new car!!

I tried to get an action shot as we drove home, but failed. I didn't want to risk another one and kill everyone, so I gave up. But you can kind of see him...
Chapter Four: That Night
Mr. T had to go back to work, so I came home and chillaxed. Roommate got home a little bit later, then Mr. T gets home. "Does anyone need anything? I can take us to a store if someone needs something!" So we all go on a cigarette run for Roommate. Ten minutes later Mr. T and roommate make a beer run. When they get home they want to watch Supernatural (gag me), but I had just started an episode of Raising Hope (freaking hilarious show, for the record). Mr. T is all "No worries - we'll just watch it on my iPad outside!" I, mistakenly, said "You're not going to sit in your Jeep are you??" At first he said no, but ten minutes later he walks in and says yes, yes they are going to sit in the Jeep and watch it. But I guess the iPad needs to charge while they watch it, so he has to run an extension cord from the living room into our front yard, where he and Roommate sat watching Supernatural for longer than is considered sane. Also, they didn't close the door all the way and we almost lost all our pets. Literally. Both cats were outside and Splinter almost was.

I swear I live with children. But I love them. And I'm glad we have Roommate to entertain Mr. T with things such as Jeep Supernatural marathons and blanket forts. I'm also glad he finally has his own car so I don't have to keep taking him to and picking him up from work.

Over 9000

Apologies...

I have started about three or four different posts since the last time I wrote. None were ever completed. It seems like since I've gotten out of school and acquired all this glorious free time I haven't had time to do anything. Here is a quick re-cap followed by a promise (you'll like the promise, I promise).

Re-Cap:
I got the job! I should start this week. Not sure on the exact day, because it's dependent on when my background check gets back. Probably not tomorrow, but maybe by Tuesday or Wednesday. (Woo!) Speaking of "Woo!" - when I left the contracting company Friday after I filled out all my paperwork I got on the Interstate and felt an overwhelming sense of "Woo!" come over me. So I did what they always do in the movies - I let out a "Woo!" and...it wasn't as fun as I had thought it would be. I kind of felt silly. I'm glad I left out the fist pump I had contemplated. Maybe it's because I thought about doing it before I did it. It wasn't instinctual. I wasn't totally in the moment by the time I worked up the courage to do it. Or maybe I'm just too awkward of a person. I feel like you shouldn't have to work up courage to do something like that. You should just do it. I'm a failure.

In preparation for my upcoming job....I am going to clean my car (can't have a trashy car for my first day at my first real job!!), clean house (what I should be doing right now instead of this), spend my $25 credit at Plato's Closet (going in the morning to try to avoid crowds - they need a bigger building), deposit the last of my graduation money (uncle mailed me a check last week - woo!), pick out an outfit (wtf do you wear for your first day at your first real job?!), and start getting in bed by midnight (that is going to be so much harder than you can imagine).

I have this evening and tomorrow to get all this done. This evening is dedicated to cleaning - clean out the car, wash and vacuum out the car, park the car NOT under the tree where it gets pooped on; tidy up the house; do laundry. I washed all of Mr. T's clothes last night but didn't get to any of mine. Not that any of the dirty ones are ones I would wear to work...I definitely need to shop for work clothes. Definitely. Tomorrow I am going by the bank to deposit the check and cash in all our loose change. You have no idea how much loose change we have. I'll be sure to let you know. Or at least post it on my Facebook page.

Holy crap, I got totally distracted and almost forgot to finish this post, too. I'm going to wrap up now so that doesn't happen. And, since I promised you a promise:

Promise:
I am setting a goal to post once a day every day for the month of June. (Pssshhhh...we'll see how long that lasts, amiright?)

Don't Worry, Be Happy

Here's a little song I wrote...you might want to sing it note for note...

DON'T WORRY....BE HAPPY...

That's all I know.

But wait - here it is:

Everything I need to know I learned from Big Mouth Billy Bass...

At any rate, I'm here to talk about jobs. Lovely, lovely jobs. I might have one soon. Maybe just maybe. I got in contact with a recruiting/contracting firm a few weeks ago (they've been very lovely to me) and Ladle (my main contact with the firm) called me as I was walking out of the gym after graduation on Saturday about an interview this week. Well the interview was yesterday. I think it went rather well. I really liked the people I met. Apparently it's a - HOLY BALLS THE DRYER JUST WENT OFF AND I ALMOST PASSED OUT - fairly large company, and I would be working in their headquarters, in the IT department. The cool thing is, even though it's a large company, it consists of lots of little companies that all have their own IT departments. So I would be working with one other person (my boss/supervisor), maintaining the Web sites for all the companies (about 20 sites), and dealing with a couple of applications that are company-wide, like payroll. It's a six-month contract-to-hire, which means that if they like me they can offer me a full-time position at the end of the six months. I'll be making $28/hour, which is $58k a year. Which is AWESOME. mmmm...money - I won't be broke anymore!! How lovely. Lovely lovely lovely. "Lovely" is the word of the day, by the way (rhyme - how lovely).

Anyway, back to my lovely potential job. I interviewed with three people, an HR rep, my supervisor/boss guy, and the CIO (my boss's boss). They all seemed nice, and hopefully they liked me. They had Ladle send me programming tests - C# and SQL. When I told her I hadn't actually used C# in nearly 3 years she kind of freaked out and told me to take the C++ one, too. Maybe a good C++ score will cancel out a bad C# score? I took the C# one a few minutes ago...it went alright. I had to Google most of the questions. Guessed on a few... But the worst part is I don't get to see my score. So I have no idea how well I did. I'm taking a break - waiting on Exum to bring me some Taco Bell (OM NOM NOM) - then I'm gonna watch some The Office before I start on Round 2. I have to have all three finished by 5:00 this evening. It's only 1:00 - I got this. (HOLY CRAP, IT'S ALREADY 1:00?!)

Friday Tunes

It has been too long!! The post I just posted was too scattered, even for me. And I kept it all short. I could have drug out any one of those paragraphs for much longer. I just don't have the time to waste - we're playing catch-up, people!! So today is a double-post kind of day. But this one is only this one paragraph that has already gone on too long and then these music videos:

Graduating!

I can't believe it...I'm graduating tomorrow. (!!!)

I haven't written in...a long time. I'm sorry. School got crazy. But it's over! And I'm graduating!! Tomorrow!!! Actually, in almost exactly twelve hours... (!!!!) I'm kind of starting to freak out a little. lol Not really about the physical act of graduation. I mean, I might trip and fall on my face on the stage, but that's the risk you take. I'm freaked out because this is the first summer that isn't a break. I need a job. And not a part-time summer job. A career job. I don't even know how to do that. From now until forever I have no plans, until I get one. I think I'm gonna go pass out. But anyway - I decided to stress about that next week. This week I was still a college student!! Next week I'm an unemployed adult.

My family is coming up tomorrow. My parents, my brother and his wife, Mama N, my uncle and aunt are actually coming up (they actually are going to a concert around here tomorrow, so it's not a trip just for me), Mr. T's mom might be coming...and of course Mr. T. After the ceremony we're gonna have a cookout at our house, then we have to head to East TN for my cousin's wedding. He and his lovely bride decided to get married on the same day as my graduation. I know it wasn't on purpose, just an unfortunate coincidence. But it makes my day way more stressful than I would want it to be.

Oh! Oh Oh Oh!! My sister is pregnant again!! I'm super excited. :D Baby M is just over one year old now, and my sister and her husband were talking about maybe trying again around June. Then she found out she was pregnant. lol! I told her I felt like I should give her "the talk" so these things don't keep happening (same thing happened with Baby M - they thought they might start trying to have a kid soon and then BAM! pregnant). But at least they're grown freaking adults with jobs and stability who are ready to have kids, and not poor college kids, or even high school kids. And I get to be an aunt again! Even though I have to admit I like toddler Baby M way more than I liked baby Baby M. They aren't interesting...they just cry and poop. I know I'll feel differently when I have one, but for now...babies aren't super interesting. ;)

Mood swing! I'm starting to get in a funk. See paragraph one. I'm so terrified of becoming an adult. I know it's silly. But I've only ever been a student. Bah! Whatever. It will be fine. Next week I'm going to start applying everywhere. Here in Mid TN, Huntsville, South Carolina, Florida...Hawaii...where else? I'm going to apply all over the place! And I'm going to get an awesome job and it's gonna be great. Right? I'm so scared I won't be able to... Working at the air force base has destroyed any confidence I might have had at being a good employee. And phone interviews... *shudder* ...they terrify me.

Guh - I'm being too emo. Lighthearted topic, now!!

Took Splinter and Khat to the vet (aka, my sister) today. She stuck her finger up Splinter's butt and got poop out. I think he had the same expression on his face that I did. And neither one of us wanted to sit down for awhile afterward. I may even be more traumatized, because I'm pretty sure he's already forgotten and I still have the heebie-jeebies. We have to go back next Thursday to get blood test results and teeth cleaned. Splinter also needs his nails trimmed. It's gonna be a party!

Oh! One of the guys in the department has a wife (shocking, I know) who is a photographer, and she spiked my hair up in a mohawk and took a bunch of pictures. Another one of our friends came to help. Considering none of us have ever spiked up a mohawk...it ended alright. Not quite liberty spikes, but not quite a solid fan of hair, either. It was actually kind of cool - looked like vines, almost, maybe. Anyway - PICTURES! She texted me one...I'm hoping it's okay to post on here. Hmm...

Me and Mr. T

Heh.

Fun story - her instructor told her the pictures needed more boob. Said covering them made it look too forced, or something. I feel like there was enough boob to make it awkward for everyone involved, thankyouverymuch. But it was an...interesting...experience. Considering I've had a mohawk-style haircut for several months and never spiked it up I think it was about time. As far as topless pictures...well that was a first. And I'm not sure it will be repeated all that often in my future.

Anywhoodles - this is much too long of a post. BYE!
